Unaccompanied Minor requirements
Desiree:
I just spoke to Southwest. They have advised me that for a child 12 years or older he is not required to fly as an unaccompanied minor, however, since he would be flying as an adult he would be required to have some form of ID. They say a photo ID would not be required. A birth certificate would be acceptable. Of course, both his birth certificate and his state issued photo ID (yes, I did get him an MVD photo ID card) both contain his date of birth - which very clearly show him as being 11, not 12.
If the child is 11 or younger he is required to fly as an unaccompanied minor, pursuant to Southwest's policies which require a $50 unaccompanied minor service charge.
Please let me know how you would like to proceed.
